The Trews couldn’t wait to open the annual Rock The Park Music Festival in London, Ontario on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
The Canadian rockers hit the stage early to open the four-day event, playing their hits, along with their new single “Peace Jam”.
In what is becoming a staple for The Trews live shows, the band came down from the stage and joined the crowd for a sing-along rendition of Ishmael & Maggie. Lead guitarist John-Angus McDonald capped it off with a searing solo, heading back to the sound board, before running back to the stage.
Here are some more photos of their rockin’ performance:
The Trews, as always, have been busy this summer and will continue to be, with shows and festival dates throughout July and August.
In particular, they were thrilled to be a part of the Rock The Park bill.
“We’re very excited to be a part of this most excellent bill at Rock The Park this summer,” the band shared on their website.
This is the third time The Trews have graced the Rock The Park stage, having played on the same night as The Tragically Hip in 2013, along with the 2022 festival last summer.
The Trews consist of vocalist Colin MacDonald, guitarist John-Angus MacDonald, bassist Jack Syperek, and drummer Chris Gormley, and keyboardist Jeff Heisholt.
They have shared stages with everyone from the Rolling Stones to Weezer, Bruce Springsteen to Rich Robinson, the latter collaboration culminating in three blazing tracks on the band’s latest, Wanderer, cut in Nashville with the onetime Black Crowes guitarist.
Amid the global pandemic, which halted both the Nashville sessions and tour plans for 2018’s epic Civilianaires album, The Trews completed Wanderer at home in Canada with producers Derek Hoffman and Eric Ratz, emerging with their fiercest and most accomplished set of songs to date, and a heck of backstory to boot.
They are originally from Antigonish, Nova Scotia and are currently based in Hamilton, Ontario.
