Megadeth rocks out in the Kentucky heat at Louder Than Life 2023

Fresh off a performance at Caesars Windsor in Ontario, Canada, thrash metal veterans Megadeth headed south the following day to rock the Louder Than Life Music Festival.

With riffs straight from the 80’s and 90’s, which have stood the test of time, the Los Angeles rockers shone in the Kentucky sun on the Loudmouth Stage on the second day of the festival in Louisville on Friday, September 22, 2023.

Here are photos of their performance by Steve Thrasher:

From the beginning, Megadeth has proved to be an audacious unit on the heavy music scene.

They have been pushing thrash to the limits of music ferocity and instrumental virtuosity since their debut in 1985 with Killing Is My Business…And Business Is Good!

After his departure from Metallica, having co-written many songs that would appear on their first two albums, the ultra-hungry Dave Mustaine conceived a new band, Megadeth, which would harness the cinematic song craft of the new wave of British heavy metal to radically faster tempos, heightened technical agility, complex arrangements, and punk’s primeval aggression.

Over 30 years later, Megadeth reinvented themselves with the release of their 15th studio album, 2016’s Dystopia, featuring the GRAMMY award-winning title track.

In 2022, the band released The Sick, The Dying…And The Dead! which debuted at Number Three on the Billboard 200 album chart.

The album melds the ultra-frenetic riffing, fiercely intricate guitar solos, and adventurous spirit of the quartet’s groundbreaking early output with the musicality and melodicism of its ‘90s songwriting, all laced with precision along with Mustaine’s singular vocal snarl and wry, lyrical vitriol.

For their career, Megadeth has sold tens of millions of albums, notched consecutive platinum efforts, including 1992’s Countdown to Extinction, and garnered 13 GRAMMY nominations.
