Trans-Canada Highwaymen hitting the road for a Canadian tour, including a May 8 show in Sarnia

Trans-Canada Highwaymen (TCH) will be hitting the road with a series of concerts planned for cities across the country.

The quartet, which features Sloan bassist Chris Murphy, Odds guitarist Craig Northey, former Barenaked Ladies frontman Steven Page, and The Pursuit of Happiness’s Moe Berg, will be touring in support of their debut album Explosive Hits Vol. 1. Released by Pheromone Recordings in October 2023, the 14-track album revives classic Can-rock songs from the 60s and 70s in a collection that pays homage to the great K-Tel compilation records of the era.

The national tour kicks off at Toronto’s legendary music venue, The Horseshoe Tavern on December 13, 2023, and makes its way to Casino Regina, Regina on March 6, 2024, Club Regent Event Centre, Winnipeg on March 22, 2024 with further dates to be announced soon.

Tickets for the Trans-Canada Highwaymen tour go on sale November 24 at www.transcanadahighwaymen.com.

The Edmonton Journal had this to say about Explosive Hits Vol. 1, “The love of their craft is evident on Explosive Hits Vol. 1. Schmaltzy pop songs are elevated to iconic status in the hands of these four musicians, which may stir pangs of nostalgia within you. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more joyful listen this year. Bring on Vol. 2.”

On this tour fans can expect to hear songs from Explosive Hits Vol. 1 with Steven singing “Undun” (The Guess Who), “Rock Me Gently” (Andy Kim) and “(I Believe) There’s Nothing Stronger Than Our Love” (Paul Anka). They will also hear Craig sing “Tonite is a Wonderful Time to Fall in Love” (April Wine), “Make My Life a Little Bit Brighter” (Chester), “Heartbeat, It’s a Lovebeat” (The DeFranco Family) and “Can’t Catch Me” (Bim). Chris performs “Lovin’ You Ain‘t Easy” (Michel Pagliaro), “Which Way You Goin’ Billy?” (The Poppy Family) and “Carry Me” (The Stampeders). And Moe will take on “Pretty Lady” (Lighthouse), “Raised on Robbery” (Joni Mitchell) and “You, Me and Mexico” (Edward Bear).

When it comes to Canadian rock in the ‘90s, the term supergroup can not be overused when speaking of this quartet that first came together in 2017. Fast forward to 2023, the Trans-Canada Highwaymen live show will feature songs from Explosive Hits Vol. 1, but the emphasis will still be the songs these guys have written during the late 80’s and early 90’s as front men of Canada’s most popular and commercially successful alt/rock, power/pop bands.

On tour they will perform their hit songs, seeing members swap instruments throughout the set, rotating singers and instruments throughout the set, demonstrating musicianship and injecting the band’s performance with infectious energy. Their unique perspectives on being catapulted from the hard working underground indie scene to acclaim during one of Canada’s most exciting and transformative music eras is a story only they can tell.
