Los Angeles post-hardcore rockers Touché Amoré rocked the Decibel Stage on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Louder Than Life in Louisville, Kentucky.

Earlier this month, Touché Amoré released “Hal Ashby,” the second single from their upcoming album Spiral in a Straight Line, set to drop on Oct. 11 via Rise Records. The track is named after the acclaimed American director known for his work in ’70s counterculture cinema, including *Being There* and *Harold and Maude*, and his portrayal of tragically misunderstood characters. Frontman Jeremy Bolm uses clever lyrics and a powerful vocal delivery to explore themes of misunderstandings, both large and small, while expressing a deep desire for a sense of course correction.

The single is accompanied by a surreal music video directed by Sean Stout, in which Bolm is depicted watching an Ashby-inspired film in a theater. The music blurs the line between what’s happening on screen and in the theater itself. Bolm explained, “The ‘Hal Ashby’ music video is half a love letter to Hal and half a dream-like interpretation of the song as a whole. It’s about things being misunderstood and finding grace in that space in between.”

“Hal Ashby” encapsulates the spiraling theme that runs throughout Spiral in a Straight Line — the feeling of being caught in the emotional debris of words, memories, and pain left in the wake of upheaval, and figuring out how to keep moving forward. The album reflects the band’s deep dive into life-altering changes, grappling with the turmoil of moving ahead while wrestling with the past.

For the album, Touché Amoré reunited with producer Ross Robinson, known for his work with KoRn, Slipknot, and At The Drive-In. The collaboration follows their work together on Lament, which was named Best New Album by Pitchfork. The new record also features guest appearances by Julien Baker (of boygenius) and Lou Barlow (Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, The Folk Implosion).

Touché Amoré will embark on a 2024 headlining tour in support of the album, with support from Soul Glo, Portrayal of Guilt, and Soft Blue Shimmer. The tour kicks off Oct. 9, with stops in Los Angeles, Seattle, Atlanta, and Brooklyn.
