Starcrawler brings headliner energy to St. Andrew’s Hall in Detroit

Los Angeles, California rockers Starcrawler brought top bill energy to St. Andrew’s Hall in downtown Detroit on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

“Let’s go, Detroit,” chanted Arrow de Wilde, the lead vocalist for the band.

“Last night we played in Grand Rapids and they didn’t clap that much, but I believe they’d probably never been to a show before. But I believe that you guys have been to shows before, so when I say clap, you clap.”

In a further attempt to engage the audience, de Wilde asked “can you bark like a dog?”, as she proceeded to bark into the microphone.

Flanked by lead guitarist Henri Cash and brother Bill Cash on pedal steel/guitar, along with drummer Seth Carolina and bassist Tim Franco, de Wilde put her rock star charisma on full display for the Detroit crowd.

At one point the singer went from bending backwards, nearly in half, to laying flat on the stage and convulsing, as if her bandmates’ playing was igniting an exorcism in front of St. Andrew’s crowd.

Midway through their show, the band welcomed a special guest on stage.

“I’d like to invite someone very special to come on stage with us,” de Wilde said.

“Can you all say Wata where are you? Give it up for Wata. You guys gotta get better at responding, I said give it up for Wata.”

Wata, a guitarist and keyboardist for the night’s headline act Boris, brought some heavier guitar riffs on stage with her, giving a dynamic contrast to the pop-punk and glam-rock sound of Starcrawler.

Having been on tour with Boris since the end of September, Starcrawler guitarist Henri Cash told the Detroit crowd he suffered an injury recently at a show at Fine Line in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

“There was a balcony just like this and I decided to climb up there after the show and broke two ribs,” he said.

“But I learned my lesson. So now I won’t go up there today.”

de Wilde drew a roar from the crowd, while humorously supporting her bandmate,

“Give it up for Henri with two broken ribs,” the singer wailed.

And even with two broken ribs, the guitarist did manage to stay off of the St. Andrew’s Hall balcony, but he did jump off stage into the pit, performing a solo amongst the front row during their encore tune ‘Bet My Brains’.

Cash continued further into the crowd, eventually climbing on top of the long bar in the venue to finish his solo.

SWOMP was in the pit, and the balcony, for Starcrawler’s performance.
