If Quentin Tarantino needs a band for his next film’s soundtrack, The Kills could admirably handle the task.
Led by singer Alison Mosshart and guitarist Jamie Hince, the English-American rock duo performed on the Right Field stage during the afternoon on the second day of the Innings Festival on Saturday, February 22.
Mosshart’s sultry, seductive and raspy vocals, combined with Hince’s dirty guitar licks, evoked a gritty, retro-cool energy.
At one point, a smiling Mosshart sat on an amp on stage, staring up at Hince, who serenaded her with one of his epic guitar solos.
“A few days late from a cactus peak in AZ, wanted to take a moment to say thank you for having us Innings Fest,” Mosshart posted on social media.
“Thank you Arizona sun burners – and thank you to whatever defunct travel agency were responsible for our Caribbean themed dressing full of exotic bird decals, white sands and starfish. It was so great to play again!”
Mosshart added: “Beck was incredible that night too. We danced and we danced oh we danced.”
She also thanked the Chicago Cubs for inviting The Kills to throw a ceremonial first pitch before a spring training game at nearby Sloan Park.
“I made it to the plate!” Mosshart wrote.
“I threw it pretty straight! I shall be practicing my throw until the baseball gods call again. My jersey hangs ready in the closet. Wind it up!”
