Jet returns to Detroit with soaring set at The Fillmore

The knights standing guard on either side of the Fillmore Detroit stage looked like they were nodding along as Australian rockers Jet made a thunderous return to the Motor City on Friday, June 6, 2025.

“What’s the vibe? What’s the atmosphere here tonight? Are you feeling good?” frontman Nic Cester called out to the crowd.

Cester took note of the Tigers game happening across the street at Comerica Park. “I just heard that you guys are winning. It’s Friday night—there’s nothing to be upset about.”

His voice—gritty, dynamic, and as charged as it was when Jet exploded onto the scene in 2003—soared to the rafters of the Fillmore’s barrel-vaulted ceiling. The band hadn’t played Detroit in over a decade, and Cester acknowledged the long absence with a wink.

“We’ve been away for a while—about 10 fucking years, actually,” he said, before launching into a tale from their earlier touring days. “There was a guy who somehow got backstage… like a local mafia dude. He insisted we come with him to some restaurant in Detroit. I remember he left the biggest bag of cocaine on our bus I’d ever seen. I only mention this in case he’s here tonight — please make your way immediately.”

The crowd roared with laughter — then louder still as Jet tore into their latest single, “Hurry, Hurry.”

The night’s setlist was a high-voltage ride through their catalog, with deafening responses to staples like “Are You Gonna Be My Girl?”, “Cold Hard Bitch,” and “Rollover DJ.” At one point, Mark Wilson’s thundering basslines felt like they were rattling the leaves painted on Fillmore’s historic murals.

Ahead of the show, SWOMP caught up with Wilson for an interview. Listen to the full conversation below:

Cester kept the crowd engaged all night, leading singalongs and slowing things down for a heartfelt version of “Look What You’ve Done.” Before launching into the ballad, he grinned: “We’re going to do things a little differently tonight. If you know the words, feel free to sing along — just don’t fuck it up.”

The band closed the night with a tribute to their Aussie roots, delivering a blistering cover of AC/DC’s “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll).”

Opening duties were handled by Band of Skulls, fronted by Russell Marsden, who wasted no time setting the tone. With gritty, blues-soaked guitar solos and pounding rhythms, their set was a welcome reminder that good old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll is still very much alive.
