Scottish quintet Franz Ferdinand turned St. Andrew’s Hall into a frenzy on Monday, September 29, 2025, packing the historic Detroit room with wall-to-wall electricity.
Frontman Alex Kapranos wasted no time pulling the crowd in — grinning, shouting, waving his arms like a conductor as fans jumped, sang, and filled in the choruses. “That’s the Detroit energy,” he roared. “I knew tonight was going to be a good one.”
The band threaded its set with a mix of millennial-era staples and fresh cuts from The Human Fear, their January release. The encore opener “Audacious” hit like a manifesto. Bassist Bob Hardy has called it a statement piece, in a recent interview with Apple Music’s Hanuman Welch:
“There’s no point being onstage unless you’re going to do it in an audacious way. If you’re not going to do it the whole way, then what the fuck are you doing?”
New songs slotted seamlessly into the set. ‘Black Eyelashes,’ with its sinister synths and marching drums, felt ripped from an ‘80s thriller, while ‘Hooked’ turned into a full-on party when opener Master Peace stormed back onstage to drop bars alongside the band.
Of course, the heavy-hitters landed hardest. Kapranos twisted lyrics in ‘Do You Want To,’ swapping in Detroit callouts as fans stomped the floorboards. And when the opening riff of ‘Take Me Out’ hit, the entire room detonated — fists in the air, the floor shaking as if it could barely hold.
By the time the last note rang out, Franz Ferdinand had proved they’re not just nostalgia bait but a band still writing, still pushing, still unafraid to be loud, sweaty, and, above all, audacious.
Franz Ferdinand’s tour continues across the globe into 2026.
