Peach Pit added another stop to their growing international footprint at the Innings Festival, becoming the first band SWOMP has covered in three different countries.
“How we doing, Tempe?” singer and guitarist Neil Smith asked the audience.
After previous SWOMP coverage at London Music Hall and at Corona Capital in Mexico City, the Vancouver, British Columbia pop-rockers brought their laid-back energy to the Arizona crowd – along with some unexpected commentary on Scandinavian taste.
Following a performance of “Black Licorice,” Smith noted that countries in Europe didn’t quite get the metaphor in the song. While audiences in Canada and the U.S. can agree that black licorice is an acquired taste, he said it’s far more appreciated in places like Sweden.
Smith also gave a nod to the Arizona music scene, calling it one of the band’s favourite places to play, having performed five or six shows in the area.
From start to finish, Peach Pit kept the crowd dancing and swaying, locking into the easygoing, sun-soaked vibe of the afternoon set.
