Getting the chance to cover the Foo Fighters, Weezer, Queens of The Stone Age once again, and covering artists like Linkin Park, Garbage, Jerry Cantrell for the first time enticed us to travel to Mexico City for the 2025 Corona Capital festival.
However, it was the performance by the Day #2 headliner – Chappell Roan – that captivated me the most to end up in the pages of ‘Issue Zero’ of SWOMP Magazine.
Her voice, the theatrics, the extravagant stage decor and her Tim Burton character persona on stage were all riveting, but it was the build-up before the show that first grabbed my attention.
There was pink everywhere! And cowboy hats, knee high boots, glitter, lineups for the pink pony statue rivalling any of the cerveza lines, and more glitter.
Maybe it was the contrast that stood out to me the most, Chappell Roan’s fans were ready to go to prom with their attire, different from the black pants and band shirt look typical for a rock music festival.
Also, seeing pop performers is a different animal in itself. It’s not just a concert, but a full-scale performing arts spectacle. It reminded me of bringing Ava and Daylia to their first ever concert when they were little – Taylor Swift at Ford Field in Detroit on the 1989 Tour. It was full-scale sensory overload, somehow achieving a sense of intimate engagement with tens of thousands of people.
I was also thrilled to work with the Corona Capital organizers in Mexico to utilize the amazing photos captured by Alive Coverage of Chappell’s show, which look stunning in the pages of ‘Issue Zero’!
I’ll share a few below to give you an idea!
The feature is a keepsake for any aspiring ‘Pink Pony Club’ member.
