Reunited sludge metal pioneers Acid Bath made a long-awaited return to the stage at Sick New World, performing on the Green Stage at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds.
The appearance marks part of the band’s first run of shows in nearly three decades, following its official reunion in late 2024. Acid Bath had been inactive since 1997, when the group disbanded after the death of bassist Audie Pitre.
Formed in 1991 in Houma, La., the band built a cult following with a sound that blended elements of doom metal, hardcore punk, death metal and gothic rock, often referred to by fans as “death rock.” Despite a relatively short original run, Acid Bath has remained influential within heavy music circles.
The current touring lineup features returning members Dax Riggs, Sammy Duet and Mike Sanchez, joined by drummer Zack Simmons and bassist Shane Wesley.
Following the band’s breakup in the late 1990s, its members went on to other projects, including Goatwhore and Agents of Oblivion, while Riggs also released music under his own name.
